Agreement to be signed today to take back Rohingyas

An agreement could be signed today (Thursday) between Myanmar and Bangladesh to repatriate Rohingyas who fled Myanmar to save their lives from violence in Rakhine and took shelter in Bangladesh. Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali said this.A lengthy meeting was held on the issue in Myanmar’s capital Naypyidaw on Wednesday. But the two countries could not reach consensus on several matters. Bangladesh wants to include a clause of specific timeframe for Rohingya repatriation. Besides, Dhaka took a stand to include United Nations for Rohingya scrutinize. But objection came from Myanmar over the two matters from earlier.

But Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali said, agreement could be signed today after solving the matters.Foreign Minister said, we had a good discussion on Wednesday. We hope that an agreement could be signed on Thursday. It is in the final stage.Earlier the Foreign Minister held a lengthy meeting with Minister of Myanmar State Counselor Office Kyaw Tint Swe. In the meeting discussions were held on different bilateral matters including Rohingya issue.Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Myanmar Sufiur Rahman, representatives of Home Ministry and Prime Minister’s Office were present in the meeting.After completion of ASEM conference in Naypyiday on Tuesday Myanmar State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi said, how the willing Rohingyas could be repatriated will be fixed in the meeting of two countries.More than six lakh Rohingyas fled Myanmar and took shelter in Bangladesh after Myanmar army started operation in Rakhine on 25th August. The deported Rohingyas said that Myanmar army originated indiscriminate killing, rape, arson and looting along with torching village after villages.
